Carmel Greyhounds 2026 football preview

The Carmel Greyhounds are anxious to get the season started. Last season resulted in a 9-2 record, but didn’t end like they wanted. A sectional championship loss at home in overtime to eventual state runner-up Westfield (23-20) has the Hounds primed for an even better 2026.

Kevin Wright starts his second season with a bang and keep the Greyhounds on the rise. Wright was 54-10 in five seasons from 2010-14 in his first stint at Carmel, winning the 5A state title in 2011 and runner-up finishes in 2013-14. He has been a head coach for 21 years, most notably at Carmel and during his time at Warren Central.

 

In six seasons from 2000-05, Warren Central went 71-12 with six consecutive sectional championships, along with three straight 5A state crowns from 2003-05. His other head coaching experience in Indiana was at Noblesville (1992-98) and Frankfort (1991).

 

After a three-year hiatus as an independent, Carmel has rejoined with the Metropolitan Conference (MIC), along with rival Center Grove.

 

Carmel is 2nd in the 6A preseason coaches' poll and probably has the toughest non-conference schedule in the state. This Friday, Aug. 21, they open the season at the newly renovated Greyhound Stadium against the #12 Fishers Tigers. The Hounds own the series with a 7-1 advantage.

In Week 2, they head just north for one of the shortest road trips in the state to face the second-ranked Westfield Shamrocks in a top 5 matchup.

It doesn’t get any easier when they start MIC play at home against #4 Center Grove on Sept. 4. They stay home for the third time in four weeks when the Pike Red Devils visit on Sept. 11.

Weeks 5 and 6 are on the road at #6 Lawrence North on Sept. 18 and at North Central on Sept. 25. League play continues in the MIC on Oct. 2 at home versus #13 Ben Davis, then at #4 Warren Central on Oct. 9. The regular season concludes at home on Oct. 16 the Lawrence Central Bears.

After backing up Carmel's all-time passing yards leader Anthony Coellner for the last two seasons, Jackson Treadway is ready to take control of the Greyhound offense. In 6 games in 2025, Treadway was 8-for-12 for 216 yards and 2 touchdown passes. He also ran five times for 33 yards.

Over 800 rushing yards return with junior Ayden Johnson's 441 on 84 carries and 8 TDs, along with Josiah Gilmore's 375 on 58 rushes and 9 TDs.

Juniors Carson Clark and Alim Broadnax will lead the receivers. Last year, Clark caught 16 passes for 384 yards and 3 TDs and Broadnax 100 yards on 7 receptions and a TD.

Senior Aiden Dickerson is the top returnee on defense. Dickerson brings back 82 tackles, 2 sacks and 11 hurries. Junior Drake Coellner had 72 stops, 4 INTs and recovered a fumble as a sophomore.

Fishers Tigers 2026 football preview

Head coach Curt Funk is quietly making his mark at Fishers. Playing one of the tougher schedules in the state and being a member of the Hoosier Crossroads Conference, the Tigers were able to break through and win two consecutive sectionals in 2024 and 2025. Funk is 38-29 in his first six and 115-65 overall in 16 years, spending his first 10 at Mississinewa. After two straight sectional championships, Fishers looks to get beyond the regional for the first time since 2010 when they won the Class 5A state championship over Lawrence Central (38-19). The task to advance beyond 6A Sectional 3 has grown a little taller this year with the sectional realignment. Sectional 3 might be considered the toughest 6A sectional now, since it has the Tigers, Hamilton Southeastern, Carmel and Westfield. Hamilton Heights Huskies 2026 football preview

By Craig Adkins Husky alum Caleb Small is back in Arcadia to take over the program as head coach. Small has two years of head coaching experience under his belt and a 13-9 record. He spent 2024 at Northwestern, going 9-2. Last year, Small was at Kokomo and guided the Wildkats to a 4-7 mark. The Huskies are in search of their first sectional title since 2012. That season, current Assistant Principal Mitch Street was the head coach and led Heights to the 3A state championship game before falling to Bishop Chatard, 30-13. Hamilton Heights finished 4-6 in 2025, bowing out in an all-county matchup with Guerin Catholic in the first round of the sectional. The Huskies start things off on the road tonight at Lapel. Next week on Aug. 28, Heights welcomes a first-time opponent. London (OH) comes to Arcadia. Just west of Columbus, the Red Raiders went 12-1 (5-0 in the Central Buckeye Conference).
